Four festive activities to do with your class this Christmas
Christmas is a rather exciting time to be a teacher. After all, you can start to exercise your creativity a bit more by setting your pupils festive-themed activities to do. There is, of course, no shortage of things for the children to be getting on with. But just in case you’re looking for some ideas for inspiration, here are four fun and productive activities that you can set your class this festive season.
There are two avenues you can go down when it comes to homemade cards. First of all, you can set a playful brief for your class to work towards. On the other hand, you could simply provide scissors, card, glitter and glue before telling your students to use their imagination. The end product could make a great present for mums and dads.
There’s no need to veer too far from the syllabus if you set your students the task of writing festive-themed poems. These can be limericks, haikus or any others forms that you’ve been teaching during literature lessons. You’ll really have the kids thinking when they’re faced with finding a word that rhymes with Christmas!
Word searches are always easy to create. This Christmas though, get your class to makes ones filled with words related to the holiday season. You can then make photocopies of the best ones and hand them out for the others youngsters to do in the run-up to December 25.
The simplest decoration to create is probably an origami star that can sit at the top of the tree. It might be worth you trying to master the design beforehand, then giving a demonstration at the front of the class. Once your pupils have followed in your footsteps and picked up the new skill, they can then take the end product home with them to display over the holidays.
You and your class will no doubt have a merry old time if you attempt the following activities in the run-up to Christmas. For school supplies that might help – such a coloured pencils – check out the range available at Rhino Stationery.
