How to use technology to plan and teach
It’s 2017 and many teachers are throwing the rulebook out of the window. Rather than relying on the tried and tested techniques that have been used for generations, educators are now experimenting with technology – and it’s often leading to amazing results in the classroom! If you’re a teacher who’s looking for new ways to plan and teach lessons, here’s how you can use technology to do this.
Spreadsheets are God’s gift to teachers. There are numerous ways that they come in handy, not least that they provide an opportunity for educators to make a meticulous lesson plan. The fact that these can be edited so quickly means that you can make a note every time a session overruns so that you can avoid falling into the same trap during next year’s school year. Talk about organisation!
Gone are the days of being met with yawns when you’re stood at the front of the classroom. That’s because PowerPoint presentations allow you to rely less on your voice and more on visual aids to heighten your teaching. Because each slide is pre-planned beforehand, this measure will also prevent you from going off on a tangent and losing focus.
Forget ever hearing ‘the dog ate my homework’ excuse again. That’s because you can now ask your pupils to email you their work once they’ve typed it up. This doesn’t just mean that assignments will be in on time, it will also make it easier for you to mark on the go rather than constantly lugging bits of paper around with you or waiting a full extra day for late hand-ins. Just be sure to set up a professional email address rather than use your personal one.
Graphs are a great way to monitor progress. If you constantly update them with students’ marks, you should have a visual tool to see how individuals have progressed over the school year. In addition, graphs are also extremely useful to present to pupils (and their parents) so that they can have a better understanding of their development.
The future is here!
Technology is proving to be more and more helpful in the classroom with each passing day. Don’t forget though, this doesn’t mean that traditional school supplies such as exercise books aren’t also still necessary. Check out the products provided by Rhino Stationery to see what you still need.
