What is Global Recycling Day?

Global Recycling Day 2023 Paper Recycled 7 times - Rhino Stationery

Global Recycling Day is an annual event celebrated on March 18th to raise awareness about the importance of recycling and encourage people to take action towards a more sustainable future. Recycling is an essential component of protecting our planet and its finite resources. It reduces waste, conserves energy, and minimises pollution.

The theme is #RecyclingHeroes, highlighting the people, activities, and places that play such a significant role in creating a greener future for all of us.

On this Global Recycling Day, at RHINO we want to highlight an inspiring initiative by Save the Rhino International - the 100% Recycled Paper collection. Each product in this collection celebrates one of the rhinos that the organisation is helping to protect and reminds us of the impact we can make on the environment.

"Recycling is a key part of the circular economy, helping to protect our natural resources. Each year the ‘Seventh Resource’ (recyclables) saves over 700 million tonnes in CO2 emissions and this is projected to increase to 1 billion tons by 2030. There is no doubt recycling is on the front line in the war to save the future of our planet and humanity" - Global Recycling Day

How can we be more green?

By purchasing products made from recycled materials, we are actively contributing to a cleaner, greener future.

Recycling isn't just about using recycled products, but it's also about reducing our consumption and reusing items. By doing so, we can help minimise waste and make a positive impact on the environment. Here are a few simple ways you can contribute to a more sustainable future:

1. Reduce your plastic use
- Choose reusable bags, water bottles, and food containers to reduce your plastic waste.

2. Buy recycled products
- Choose products made from recycled materials to help reduce waste and save resources.

3. Repurpose items
- Get creative and find new uses for items instead of throwing them away.

4. Compost
- Instead of throwing away food waste, consider starting a compost pile to create nutrient-rich soil for plants - did you know you can also put paper into the compost?

By following these simple steps, we can all make a difference and contribute to a more sustainable future. So this Global Recycling Day, let's commit to reducing waste, reusing items, and recycling whenever possible. Together, we can make a positive impact on the environment and protect our planet for future generations.

We love these 5 ways you can be a #RecyclingHero, from fun DIY projects for the kids to tips to organise your home.
