How to boost wellbeing with stationery for Children's Mental Health Week

What is Children’s Mental Health Week?
Children’s Mental Health Week is celebrated every year in February since 2015, and this year it is on 9-15 February 2026, and it's a great event to understand the role schools play in helping children feel safe, supported and valued.
This year's theme is "This is My Place", with the focus on belonging, whether that's in the classroom, among friends, and within the wider school community.
“If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely!” - Roald Dahl
Sometimes, it’s the simplest tools that help create those moments of calm and connection. A fresh exercise book for journalling, a quiet space to write or draw, or a structured page for thoughts and feelings can give children a gentle way to express what’s on their mind. Writing, doodling and reflecting on paper can help pupils slow down, organise their thoughts and feel more in control of their day.
How can paper stationery support wellbeing?
Stationery can also support wellbeing by encouraging routine and familiarity. Soft-touch covers, clear layouts and comfortable paper help create a positive writing experience, while dedicated notebooks can be used for gratitude lists, wellbeing check-ins or creative storytelling activities that support emotional literacy.
This Children’s Mental Health Week Is about creating space to talk, listen, and to remind every child that they belong. With the right resources and a supportive environment, small moments in the classroom can have a lasting impact on wellbeing.
Simple activities like writing, doodling and reflecting on paper can help children:
Slow down when they feel overwhelmed
Organise their thoughts
Express feelings they may struggle to say out loud
Feel a sense of control and routine
A quiet moment with a notebook can become a safe space.
How can you support your pupils with their mental health?
Encourage pupils to write about:
How they’re feeling
Things they’re proud of
Worries they want to park on paper
This builds resilience and self-awareness...especially for children who struggle to express themselves verbally.
Encouraging children to write down their thoughts, feelings, and achievements helps develop emotional awareness and resilience, which is beneficial for students who struggle with verbal expression.
2. Art Books:
Drawing and colouring:
Reduces anxiety
Supports focus
Provides a non-verbal way to communicate emotions
Drawing and colouring offer a calming activity that can reduces worries, and enhance focus, which then helps develop their emotional awareness
3. Organisation (for Older Children)
Notebooks, desk pads and note pads can help pupils:
Plan their time
Break tasks into manageable steps
Feel a sense of achievement
Organisation can reduce stress and boost confidence.
Notebooks, Desk Pads and Note Pads can help older children with structuring their time, reducing stress, and promoting a sense of achievement.
Children’s Mental Health Week is about creating space to talk, listen and remind every child that they belong. With supportive adults and the right classroom resources, small daily moments can have a lasting impact.
